Countdown to Sailing
Hopefully, the seas will cooperate, allowing us to reach every port. Notably, our travels will encounter a few interesting features:
- Malaria-prone sections of Indonesia and African countries: We will have malaria medications to take two days prior and seven days after leaving these areas.
- Yellow Fever concerns in Kenya and Mozambique
- Time changes resulting in many 25-hour days
- International date line crossing, where we will lose a full day going east to west
Weather unknowns as Australia will be at the end of summer, and by the time we reach Spain and England, it will be late spring.
Some of the ports removed from recent Viking World Cruises include Ho Chi Minh City, India, Melbourne, and Tasmania, Australia.
We are part of a Viking World Cruise Facebook page, where many have shared that this is not their first Viking World Cruise. I would guess they enjoyed it so much they came back for more. The Africa itinerary is one reason for some; others simply enjoyed the leisure of world cruising for five months. Additionally, several members are from the infamous Viking 2021-2022 World Cruise, which re-routed while sailing due to the COVID pandemic. We can’t wait to hear those stories firsthand.
